African leaders a big let down

By Eric Sindabi

The people of the African continent as a race are a damned lot. Viewed and ranked as the lesser set of the world and other races, Africans are mere victims of the un- doing of their leaders. Universally classified as the third world region, Africa is poor both materially and intellectually. The continent ‘s people languish in poverty due to low economic levels, disease, war and poor Technology and social standards, thus the living standards of Africans are low and demeaning.

All these however can largely be accredited to a persistent existence of un-focused leaders in the continent who are not committed to improving the lives of the masses. The African leaders, since the debut of the post –colonial era have ever been characterized by selfish goals. They are born out of greed for power and self centered drives that leave no room for good governance and better economic plans. In fact the African society is far much worse than the colonial periods. The African leaders who came to power in the post –colonial era did little to develop the continent and improve the lives of their people, but rather propagated the seeds of bad governance, corruption, injustice, oppression and tribalism that are the deep, key sources of enigma in Africa today. Thus the continent has been rendered hopeless.

Africans are subjects to tribal wars, oppression, disease, hunger and poverty, poor education standards, devastated natural environment, crime, immorality, cultural imperialism and poor technological backgrounds. All these factors make life in Africa very low in standards than it can or could be under good leadership manners.

As much as Africa has potential and capacity to grow or develop to greater heights socially and economically, the backbone of its un-doing rests on its crippled leadership style. As such, Africans continue to be exploited, undermined, and damned by the west and other races.

African leaders who make their way to power using corrupt means and cling to it by all unjust means are examples of such crippled leaders. The ironical piece is that these leaders promise the masses what they never deliver and preach water but drink wine. They are hypocrites, political maniacs, in human and un realistic groups of people that take the masses rights for granted. They exploit tax payers and oppress the common people. The tribal formulas of getting to power hurt the lot and insecurity as a result of poverty, disease, crime, tribal wars and government’s brutality is the order of the day in the continent. The only way out to the African enigma is efforts to build and strengthen Democratic structures that will event rely eradicate the elements of bad leadership in the African continent. It is the only one true emancipation goal for the African people.
